The Need

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. The Canadian office opened in 1976 and has worked with civil society and the Canadian government to protect and aid asylum-seekers, refugees, resettled and stateless persons. More and more, the UNHCR corporate partners were looking to secure greater evidence of impact of their partnership and required a standard reporting protocol that accurately demonstrated their shared value within a local and global context. UNHCR asked LittPark to develop a unique reporting protocol, specifically to align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Outcome

LittPark worked with UNHCR executives, field teams and corporate partners to generate a reporting process and collection tool showing the progress corporate partnerships were making in social, environmental and economic impacts for refugees around the globe. Embedded in the newly-designed protocol were the relevant targets identified in the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The SGDs, an established global framework adopted by many Canadian corporations, helps to unify messages of impact across many different stakeholders with metrics that are universal. The impact measurement protocol designed by LitPark now serves as a basis for UNHCR’s reporting strategy for existing and new partnerships.
